Once again, the Lea County Employees have been denied transportation from Hobbs to the Site and back. The company Washington Tru Solutions who owns the current contract to run the daily operations at the WIPP site provides transportation for the employees of Carlsbad as one of many benefits used to entice people to work at the WIPP site. Obviously this Company does not want workers from Hobbs for they refuse to offer this benefit to them. The Lea County Employees have been petitioning that they be treated fairly for quite some time now, but to no avail. First they tried to bargain with company through various meetings with the managers, but the managers conveniently forgot to take action or were just too busy. Second, they have filed a WIPP form to help correct the injustice but the company dismisses those as frivolous. So the employees then went through their union for help, by filing a grievance against the company for not providing transportation when their own handbook clearly says they will provide transportation to Hobbs specifically. When the union dismissed the grievance at the stage two section because they did not feel it a worthy cause to take action, the Lea County Employees took the only option they had available. They sued both the Company and the union. Now they had not intended on suing the union, but according to New Mexico Law in order to sue the Company they have to sue the union too because they are under contract together. The Law suit ended with a neutral decision by the Judge. The Judge said they had not done all they could by not filing a grievance for every person involved in the law suit. By the way, that Judge was not from around here. That was part of the ploy of the Lawyers from Washington Tru Solutions who incidentally shared information with the union and vice versa during this matter in order to keep the Lea County Employees from winning.
So the Lea County Employees have done the next best thing they could, that is they have went back to work and each and everyone of the them has filed a grievance on the issue of no provided transportation. Keep in mind, the Lea County Employees have to bare the cost of wear and tear of their vehicles plus the gas to drive 100+ miles a day. The Carlsbad employees do not have to do this as a benefit for taking the job. This translates in a significant increase in pay per hour for the Carlsbad employees verses the Lea County Employees.
As of today, not only has the company completely blown off their case, the union too has had no regard for their situation and continually makes fun of their situation. Keep in mind all the current leaders and officers of the union are Carlsbad employees. So the hearty folks of Lea County have shown True Grit and are now running for 5 out of the 8 offices up for bid. If they are able to get some of their guys in they will be more effective in taking on the company AND the company will no longer be in bed with the union.

yes and I think that today proved why. Their actions speak loader than their words, and half the time they have no f***ing clue what they are talking about. the door incident cost them alot of money so they figured they would fire someone and lie about it instead of outright saying it, and then blame it on failure to use conduct of ops. they are a bunch of spinless bastards who have no clue how to run equipment. all they Know is whats in the procedures so -
f*** all of the a**holes managers at the WIPP site.
P.S sorry for the language

I could not agree with you MORE! The managers out their suck. Most of the managers out there are related to some other manager and only look after their family or their bottom line. They have no clue how to manage and only got the job by having their uncle etc. hire them on, or worse yet brought their knee pads to work everyday if you catch my drift? The managers our there do not take care of their men. And when sh** hits the fan, they point fingers.
They are YELLOW on the outside and PINK on the inside! Feel free to let your imaginations run with that one.
When you run a crew as a manager it is your job to serve your men. You are to give them what they need to do their job and help them in any way you can. Keep in mind our managers can not do any work due to union issues so they must lead their people by showing their pride and appreciation in their crew's work.
Let me give you an example of a good manager. Their is a manager out their named Danny Williams. This guy takes care of his men, and as result they will do anything for him. The other day he discovered at the last minute, 10 minutes till lunch that he needed to have two Rad-Con techs cover a job about a mile off site. He went to the ones who were available and asked if they were willing to do it right then. Of course they said yes because they respect Danny. But this is the reason why, he didn't just send them. He went over and helped them get the gear around, went and got a company truck for them, and then went with them to job to be available to get them what ever they needed for the job. To top if off, while they were working through their lunch, he left back to the site and went to the cafeteria and bought two house specials that day plus two cokes and walked the meals to their desks. He would have brought it out there but could not because the techs were out there suited out due to airborne lead contamination. The techs got the job done faster than he anticipated and he met them on the road on their way back. He then told them not to worry about the equipment, that he would bring that in and told them to go eat their lunch. They teased and asked what lunch? Lunch is over. He then told them that lunch was on the house and not to worry he took care of it. So the those techs went to their desks to enjoy some hot fresh enchiladas.
Do you see the difference with this manager. He takes care of his crew! As a result they will do anything for him. Unlike Pat a**hole oh I meant Ja**o. LOL

| The time will come when you walk out your door and there it'll be the short bus to take you to work. It doesn't matter how you get there, it's the chaos you can create while your there. Unlike lucky's reply, not all employees from Carlsbad are a@#holes. Some of us are behind you every step of the way.FTP!!!

Gee boys and/or girls, anytime someone works on a government site they must adhere to government rules and regulations. That pertains to ALL employees and has nothing to do with where they live. That goes for management as well as employees. As far as many of the managers being from Carlsbad, 85% of those working at WIPP live in Carlsbad, so it makes perfect sense that 85% them are in management. What? Is there nepotism going on at WIPP? That is mostly among the ranks, not the management.
The soluton might be to move to Carlsbad and become part of the 85%. Simple enough.

Cattle banging Kate, are you on crack? who in the hell would want to move to Carlsbad? I'd rather slam-dance naked in a cactus patch to lawrence welch than even consider that crazy-ass-sh**! Fact of the matter to put it short- wipp was a joint effort of lea and eddie counties. One of the main bosses was from carlsbad and started promoting his friends and family and therefore cutting out lea county. They have not kept up their end of the agreement as original venture started. They have closed the office in Hobbs, cut transportation, very rarely to the external jobs make it to the dept of labor in Hobbs- in fact when someone applies the applications have to be sent to the dept of labor-Carlsbad and then they are faxed in to the Wipp! YEAH!
Sorry but I dont even come close to agreeing with ya here! I'm sorry if I believe in hiring the right person for the job. It was nmjc-hobbs that had the rad. technology classes for radiological and waste handling jobs! Not C-bad! and out of these classes how many people were hired????? Now, wtf is that about? Got people that go to school and get trained for this type of work, yet only a very few are hired? Wow!!
Give me a break. I like to keep my cards on the table and on the up and up. You should see some of the recent hires we've had to endure and are responsible for training! We have learned to all keep our mouths shut as eventually we will see to whom they are related! Is it really that bad? Oh definately so- it's ridiculiously silly. Now i dont expect everyone who has taken these classes to obtain a job, but I would expect a good percentage of them to at least make it to an interview!!
I would also like to point out the last few people hired from Lea County and from the Rad. Tech. Classes have ALL been OUTSTANDING employees, with great work ethics! Every last one of them! It's just a shame that they are not treated the same as Eddie County employees.

Sinner, ouch, I don't bang cows, you silly goose. I leave that to you fellers. That crack stuff klills 'n I like livin' too much.
Hey sweetie, all I was sayin' is, if'n you can't beat 'em, join 'em. Ever'one knows 'bout the folks at WIPP bein' all family and stuff like that.
Wild Willy, how did the Union election go? Does the Union now have equal representation from Hobbs to persue your transportation problems? I just hope this doesn't ruin transportation for everyone at the WIPP site. It wouldn't sit well with most folks. Good luck in your pursuit.

Washington Group really did it up last night. Dick Raaz hosted a party of who's who last night at the Country Club. Washington Group has not yet finalized the deal with West Cumbria and the NDA (our equivalent of the DOE) to build an Underground Repository like the WIPP facility. So the NDA wanted to tour the WIPP facility, and see how the complete system works from the Generator Sites to the final Desitnation of WIPP. The NDA had the Company men from Sellafield LTD, the Union Leaders from the White Collar Unions and the Blue Collar Unions, the West Cumbria Operations Director for Washington Group, and many more there to tour the WIPP facility yesterday. Afterward, Washington wined and dined them at the Country Club complete with a Mariachi Band. We the union leaders and prior leaders were invited too. Kevin Miller, Marcus Ingram, and I were seated with Peter Kane the blue collar union leader and Iain Irving. Our NM state representatives and senators were there too, like John Heaton, and Vernon Asbill. Both Mayors from Carlsbad and Hobbs and many other political names were also there.
The reason we were invited was because in England the Unions are much stronger than here in America, and they control most of the Nuclear Jobs in Cumbria. So in order for the NDA to consider a Contract with Washington they must see how well the relationship between Washington Group and the Unions are here in America. That is the reason we were seated with Peter Kane, because our union would be considered a Blue Collar Union. I am not sure yet why Iain Irving was there other than he must interface with Peter Kane a lot and at one time worked with him. The politicians were there because they are working to convince the Public that Washington Group is the Contractor we want here in the SouthEast for the LES enrichment plant, and many more upcoming projects. So as a favor they said many positive comments about Washington Group, and how they would be the Contractor of Choice for the NDA, etc. Not to mention, they wanted to show a good face with the British NDA here in our state, looking at our facilities.
To be honest, not much conversation took place about the working relationship between our union and the company. The band was way too loud making conversation difficult, and Peter Kane's accent was so bad it was hard too make out what he was saying. We did talk a little about the upcoming 12 hour schedule and the safety of our workers. He gave us his card and email address so we can talk about more issues with out the company there ease dropping on our conversations. Peter Kane is a union leader of 12,000 workers and seemed to have a lot of good advice. So I will be emailing him when he gets back to Cumbria.

That sounds like a real good idea, Wild Willy. It's always a good idea to trade Union information with others.

Screw Hobbs you bunch of jews. Carlsbad at least has a river instead of three burning flares. And how gay is that? At least Artesia promotes cleanliness with their oil and gas. You guys' town just looks like oilfield trash. I hope you can make a basketball goal from some heater treaters when the oilfield crashes as the Dems come in. Later Biotches.

Or it could be that our attitudes are a direct result of the screwing we're getting from WGI-Wipp!!
